World’s Collide to Debut February 14th
Roy Englebrecht Events to Promote Series Primm Valley Resort Casino to Host

Newport Beach, CA. - It’s been talked about for the past several years, whether hosting pro boxing and pro mixed martial arts fights on the same show makes sense. It’s been debated about among fight fans for months, will they support and watch pro boxing and pro mixed martial arts on the same show!

Now the wait is over and this “dual sport concept” will finally happen, and happen the right way, as California fight promoter Roy Englebrecht, in association with Shelly Finkel, Louis DeCubas, and the Primm Valley Resort Casino announced today a $175,000 boxing and mixed martial arts tournament called World’s Collide. This six show series, set for six Saturday nights in 2009, will debut on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Primm Valley Resort Casino Star of the Desert Arena.

“I am so excited to be part of the birth of what I feel is a great concept that is geared toward those young and exciting boxers and mma fighters,” said Englebrecht. “World’s Collide will feature some of the most exciting and talented young fighters from both genres of combative sports, and as a club promoter for 24 years I know the excitement that young fighters, given a chance to perform, can bring to any show. I have no doubt whatsoever that each of the World’s Collide shows will give fight fans non stop action each and every bout, as these young warriors look to make a name for themselves, giving everything they have in pursuit of what will be the coveted World’s Collide bracelet.”

World’s Collide will be the first ever boxing and mixed martial arts series which will feature both boxing and mixed martial arts bouts in the same ring on the same night in the same location. The tournament will showcase three weight categories, with eight pro boxers and eight pro mma fighters in each of the three weight divisions, in a winner take all tournament format. Quarterfinals set for February 14th, April 18th and June 20th, will feature four boxing and four mma quarterfinal bouts on each of the dates. Winners then advance to the Semi Finals on August 22nd and October 17th, and these semi final winners then advance to the World’s Collide Championships set for December 5th.

The $175,000 World’s Collide prize money payout will have quarterfinal winners receiving $2,000 and losers $1,000. Semi Final winners receive $3,000 and losers $2,000, with the six champions receiving $5,000 and runners up $2,000. Besides the $10,000 total that the six winners will receive for their three wins, they will also receive an original World’s Collide bracelet.

To be eligible to be selected to fight in the World’s Collide Tournament, fighters must have winning records and no more than 10 pro fights. The selection of all 24 boxers and 24 mma fighters will be announced on Monday, January 5, 2009.
