Heavyweight Title At Marriott
BOXING’S BIG MEN HEADLINE “BATTLE IN THE BALLROOM” SOMEBODY’S “0” WILL GO WHEN UNBEATEN HEAVYWEIGHTS ASHANTI JORDAN AND JOE HANKS COLLIDE
NEWPORT BEACH, CA, August 10th – For true boxing fans, there is only one place to be on Thursday, August 27th, as the world-famous “Battle in the Ballroom” series at the Irvine Marriott returns with its biggest and best card of the year – literally. In the main event, a night full of explosive heavyweight action is capped off by a showdown for the unofficial California State Heavyweight Championship between unbeaten big men Ashanti Jordan and Joe Hanks.
Tickets for “Battle in the Ballroom”, which is presented by Roy Englebrecht Promotions, are priced at $32 and $40 and may be purchased at www.battleintheballroom.com
One of the top heavyweight prospects in the United States today, San Francisco native Ashanti “The Boss” Jordan (10-0, 7 KOs) has been tearing through his opposition ever since turning pro in 2007. And despite a late start, the 32-year old is making up for lost time thanks to his aggressive style and fight ending power. It’s clear though, that Jordan will be facing his toughest test to date in Newark, New Jersey’s Joe Hanks (8-0, 6 KOs). A six foot four terror who is currently sporting a three fight knockout streak that includes a first round stoppage of unbeaten Hildo Silva in June, Hanks is nicknamed “The Future” for good reason, and he plans on showing why on August 27th.
But that’s not all for fans of the heavyweights, as 20-year old Scott Alexander (2-0, 1 KO) from South Central Los Angeles returns to the site of his pro debut in June, and could quickly become another Marriott favorite. Also in action will be Pomona’s 6 foot 7 giant Lionel Davis (1-0), who hopes to match or surpass his 76 second win over Mike Finney in June when he takes on (1-1) William Williams out of Las Vegas.
Opening the card will be two fighters looking for their first pro win, when Santa Ana’s Ludwin Mondragon (0-1) faces LA’s Alejandro Solario (0-2). Santa Ana will again be represented as Logan Velasco will make his pro debut against Anaheim’s (1-3) Beto Ibarra and top lightweight prospect Robert Vargas (3-0-1) will put his unbeaten record on the line in a bout against an opponent to be announced.
The Irvine Marriott is located at 18000 Von Karman Avenue in Irvine, California. Doors open at 6:30pm with three amatuer bouts taking place before the first bell rings at 7:30pm.
Bouts subject to change.
